Pro tip: Always respond to recruiters who reach out to you on LinkedIn. Even if you're not interested in the job. Here's why. Recruiters using LinkedIn's Recruiter tool are scored based on response rate. The goal is to discourage spamming (yay!). You could lose your LI Recruiter access if your response rate is below a certain level (around 10%). So, when a recruiter is sourcing candidates, we target people more likely to respond. That means we look at your history of responding to other recruiters on our team. If you ignore too many, we won't contact you againbecause you'll probably mess with our response rate. While you may not be interested today, you could be tomorrow. My recommendation? Respond to all recruiter messages, even saying "Thanks, but not interested at this time." That way the recruiter is more likely to reach out with a different role in the future. Does the same rule apply regarding responding back to candidates? 90 percent of LinkedIn coaches or recruiters advise candidates to pay for premium. Especially, if the recruiter is mentioned on the job description. Some respond others ignore. This feedback & frustration is also mentioned on Fishbowl. Or the candidate is ignored after they followed up regarding a role the recruiter used LinkedIn to dm them.

If a reputable recruiter reaches out to recommend a role that is clearly a good match for my background and experience, I will always respond to set up a sourcing call, even when I'm not actively looking. Unfortunately, far too many so-called recruiters will reach out to recommend roles that completely miss the mark. It's not rocket science to look at someone's resume and figure out what job would make sense as the logical next step in their career.

Should the inverse be true then? Recruiters should always respond to candidates messages. I find the response rate from recruiters is probably about 5%. Maybe that’s why not everyone responds to recruiters.Even with recruiters who I’ve had a relationship with, the response rate is below 50%.

A disturbing trend I've experienced lately, is being contacted by recruiters via LinkedIn Messaging, in which information regarding an opportunity is shared. I respond that I am interested and poof... ghosted. I will respond to the message again days or a week later and still do not garner a response.

Another step to still get ghosted. I've always respond, attaching an updated resume. Sometimes I double back after a few weeks to look for other opportunities.

    I was recruited on LinkedIn for my last two jobs, which is why I believe wholeheartedly that this is excellent advice. So much so that I’ve shared this suggestion with many friends and family members in recent years.When Recruiters utilize tools like LinkedIn to find candidates (like a Product Manager for example) we can get thousands of results. Most of us don’t have time to weed through that many profiles. Which is why nearly every Recruiter I’ve worked with narrows their search down to candidates who are “more likely to respond”. We all know job hunting is hard enough. It’s worth it to make sure you show up for Recruiters who are searching for your skill set.

    As someone mentioned already, it seems like another step to still get ghosted.What we need is a system that pins value to a jobseekers time and resume.I created a link page for job candidates to accept recruiter invites and adds incentive to complete applications. It’s really simple. There’s no charge to post jobs. Companies can put their job advertising budget toward sending invites that return completed applications.

    Do you find unsolicited approaches from pushy recruiters on linkedin as annoying as I do?If I want to find a nice useful recruiter, I know how to find one. By myself, if and when I need to. (Not all are PUSHY recruiters.)No PUSHY recruiter who approaches me is ever going to get a cent from me or waste a moment of my time. Especially the ones who send me linkedin invitations despite the first line of my linkedin profile saying clearly in CAPS that I don’t accept linkedin invitations from recruiters. Because they didn’t have the manners to bother to find out who I am or what I do. And yet, they magically somehow know about how wonderful I am and really like me and are impressed.Can you imagine what it must be like to be a PUSHY recruiter and have to pretend all day to really like people who find you really annoying? Or the ones who - when you click that button that replies to their unsolicited approach message politely that you ‘aren’t interested’ - then pushily persist and ask you why you are not interested?Pushy recruiters, this is why: You can’t read, and you don’t respect what busy useful people tell you, and you put your need to earn money over respect for others and their time.Of course no PUSHY recruiter is actually going to read the above, they never bother to actually read anything, it’s for the enjoyment of any of the rest of you. You might think it’s a strange thing to write if I want to attract clients, but I like clients who have a sense of humour, who can relate to the annoyance of pushy recruiter approaches, clients who are interested in getting useful things done with other useful people, and thus, like me, don’t like having their time wasted.Unlike annoying time wasting pushy recruiters on linkedin firing blanks all day.

    I recently ran a LinkedIn poll asking fellow recruiters what % of their vacancies were won via cold calling… 👉🏼58% of recruiters said they won 0-25% of their roles from cold calling. Admittedly I messed up with this and should’ve given the option for Zero %. 🤦🏻♂️I’d guess that about half would’ve been zero and half 1-25%… 👉🏼16% of recruiters won 26-50% of their roles through cold calling! 👉🏼A further 16% won 51-75% of their roles from cold calls. 👉🏼Finally, 11% of recruiters won 76-100% of their roles via cold calling 👏🏼(187 votes) So, the point of this post - cold calling ain’t dead folks! Especially in this market, get on the blower and make sh*t happen! #recruitment #coldcalling

    Have you been wondering how to get connected with certain recruiters onLinkedIn?It's easier than you think. 😃LinkedIn's filters were created for just this reason...being able to pull up the recruiters you are looking for in your field (you can also use them for other things like job search, company search, connections, etc., but that is for another post).Here's how to use LinkedIn's filters to find recruiters:➊ Click on "My Network" from your home page➋ Open "Connections" at the top left-hand column➌ Click the blue "Search with filters", then "All filters"➍ In the pop-up box, choose 1st, 2nd, and 3rd connections➎ Scroll to the bottom of the box, and type in the Keyword section under "Title" 𝗛𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 or 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿 or 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗰𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻➏ Be sure to fill in the "Industry" box (a couple of boxes above) as well.
