One of the most common reasons to have a LinkedIn profile is for job search.

Your profile is a way for recruiters to find you. They use it to validate your credentials before contacting you about open positions. If you aren't getting inbound inquiries from recruiters, it might be because you aren't leveraging the power of your LinkedIn profile correctly.

#1 - Your profile isn't keyword optimized.

LinkedIn now has 900+ MILLION users. That's a lot of job candidates to sort through. As a result, their algorithm has been updated to help ensure that when a recruiter searches for a certain type of candidate, they get the most relevant profiles. Therefore, if you want to be in the top search results, you need to know how to put the correct keywords in the right places on your profile. When you know which search terms a recruiter uses to find talent with your skills sets on LinkedIn, you can include those terms in your own profile in order to be found faster.

#2 - Your haven't made your profile fully public.

Some LinkedIn users don't understand how the privacy settings of their profiles works. For example, a job seeker who had a successful career at a well-known bank who was recently laid off came to me because he couldn't understand why no recruiters were contacting him. He told me he had spent hours optimizing his profile. However, when I searched and found his profile, I could barely see any of his information. No profile photo, etc. I sent him a screenshot. He was so confused. He didn't realize that his privacy settings weren't set to public. Meanwhile, because he was logged in to the platform, he could see his full profile, and assumed everyone else could too. As soon as he changed the privacy settings to public, the recruiters started contacting him.

#3 You aren't using the Creator Mode feature.

One of LinkedIn's newest features can have a big impact on getting a recruiter's attention, but you may have never even heard of it! Creator Mode is a way to put more emphasis on your content feed as a way for other LinkedIn users (like recruiters!) to find and follow you. Once you turn it on, LinkedIn then looks at what you post in your feed and puts it in front of those with similar interests. For example, let's say you are looking for a job in digital marketing. By turning on Creator Mode and posting articles, videos and other forms of content related to digital marketing, you will increase the chances that a recruiter searching for a digital marketer will come across it. The key is to know how to share your thoughts related to digital marketing as a way to validate your depth of knowledge on the subject. Add to that the right hashtags and a few other best practices for posting on LinkedIn and you can improve the chances recruiters are reaching out to you based on your matter knowledge.
