Afghani Mantoo (Mandy, mantu or manti) are also known as the dumplings of the Silk Road. It is believed they originated from the Mongol Empire and made their way into the local cuisine of the Afghan and Turkish people.

My first time trying these delicious dumplings was a few years ago at a local Houston resturant. I immediately fell in love with these simply delicious dumplings. I love the flavor profile and texture of this dish. The simple flavors of the steamed dumplings paired with the acidity of the tomatoes, the cool yogurt sauce adds a creamy silkiness and the dried mint on top is simply divine! Every layer elevates this dish to a new level.
