When Dominik first started appearing in WWE, his entire gimmick was being Rey Mysterio’s son. His father’s shadow still held him, and there didn’t seem to be much room for improvement initially. Now, when Dominik Mysterio became a regular on WWE programming, he would show up with his father, Rey Mysterio. Together, they wrestled matches and were your typical father-son duo in wrestling. Fans expected a heel turn to happen, with Mysterio eventually retiring against his son and the latter inheriting his mask in place. That never happened, and it probably never will.

While Dominik Mysterio hasn’t wrestled matches with a mask like his father does, he has used Rey’s masks on many occasions. One time, at Royal Rumble 2023, Dominik stole his father’s mask and used it during his entrance. He then tore it apart and entered the ring. Rey Mysterio missed Royal Rumble altogether, which suggested Dominik probably had something to do with it.

At WrestleMania 39, the father-son duo finally faced each other in what was one of the biggest matches of Dominik’s wrestling career. Once again, Dominik used his father’s mask during his entrance. He came out of a cop vehicle, with handcuffs and a mask on his face. He resembled his father with that mask. While Rey ended up winning, it didn’t halt Dom’s momentum. He has continued growing and has become one of the highlights of WWE programming today.
