"I Want to Continue This Forever": One Piece's Remake Director Hints at the Length of the New Series
The One Piece remake has a great chance of being a long-running anime, according to a recent statement by the series' director.
As was revealed in the interview, the team has not yet started the animation process and is still working on concept art, character designs and overall building a foundation for the series. This means it will be some time before the anime might be released, but the fact that it has been kickstarted already sounds very promising, and the team being transparent with the production is great news.
Staff & Cast Involved With The One Piece Remake
A Highly Experienced & Promising Staff Take The Helm
From the studio behind hits like Vinland Saga, Attack On Titan, Spy X Family and more, the One Piece remake will be animated by Wit Studio. Masashi Koizuka will direct the anime, much to fans' excitement given his track record as director of Attack On Titan seasons 2 and 3. Takatoshi Honda will be the character designer, and Kyoji Asano will be the animation director. Tomonori Kuroda will serve as the art director and Ryoma Kawamura will be the animation producer.
The voice actors have not been revealed yet, and it makes sense given the production is still in a very early phase. It will be interesting to see who voices the main cast, as actors like Mayumi Tanaka (Monkey D. Luffy), is 70 years old, so the chances of her reprising this role could be slim. Fortunately, One Piece has replaced many voice actors over the years very seamlessly, so it is likely if new actors are recruited, the voices will more or less remain the same.
The One Piece Remake Art
The team received Eiichiro Oda's approval to experiment with different art styles, resulting in the release of several stunning illustrations that may be indicative of the art direction moving forward. These illustrations span the first three arcs of the series, encompassing Romance Dawn through Baratie, which amounts to 68 chapters. Considering this, it's reasonable to anticipate that season 2 could potentially cover around 24 chapters, with each episode delving into 2 to 3 chapters of the manga.
