Was Rufus Scrimgeour good or bad? ›

Scrimgeour was, according to Dumbledore, a "man of action", having fought against Dark wizards throughout his career as an Auror and climbed ambitiously through the Ministry. He gave an impression of shrewd toughness and was more decisive and forceful than his predecessor, Cornelius Fudge.

Was Rufus Scrimgeour a better man than Cornelius Fudge? Yes. At least he tried to fight Voldemort and didn't randomly hire an abusive psycho to have full educational control over Hogwarts (even if that school is in desperate need of reform).

I think Scrimgeour was a competent ministry wizard; he had a lot of experience as an auror and was well respected. He spent most of his career fighting dark wizards, and was an intimidating figure; exactly the kind of decisive, forthright person people like to have in charge during a war.

But Voldemort is still scared of him. Was Lord Voldemort afraid of the accomplished Auror, Rufus Scrimgeour? It seems likely; Rufus was the only other wizard of near-Voldemort strength who showed no fear of the Dark Lord nor his more famous nemesis, Albus Dumbledore.

After the conclusion of the Second Wizarding War, Hermione sought out her parents and returned their memories. They presumably then returned to England.

Harry describes Umbridge to Sirius Black, saying that she's vile enough to be a Death Eater, despite not being one. Umbridge is also depicted to be a prejudiced person, despising half-breeds and Muggle-born witches and wizards to the point of firing Hagrid due to his half-giant birth status.

Fudge's term ended in 1996 when, shortly after the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, he and several other Ministry officials saw Voldemort for themselves in the Ministry Atrium.

The third ex-Auror to gain office, Scrimgeour died in office at the hands of Lord Voldemort. Omitted from most official records, as he was under the Imperius Curse for his entire term of office, and unconscious of anything that he was doing.

At some point, Moody retired from active service, though by this time he was considered the greatest Auror of all time. As stated by Professor Minerva McGonagall, no Auror had been taken on for three years prior to 1995, though Nymphadora Tonks stated that she qualified the year before.

Disregarding Fudge's term as Minister for Magic doesn't do him any favors, as he was incompetent even earlier in his career. Fudge was the Junior Minister in the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes during the First Wizarding War, where he didn't display any real skill.
