How to answer a how fully question in Higher History? ›

Your answer requires a clear judgement e.g. '… explains to an extent'. Source points selected (quote directly from the source or paraphrase) should be supported by a detailed explanation clearly linked to the question.

Each section (essay) is worth 22 marks and requires an introduction for historical context and a conclusion.

Higher History is graded out of 110 marks, with grades A-D available for those gaining the award. Exams – The course involves two exams. Paper 1 (worth 44 marks) covers essays from the British and Europe/world units. One hour 30 minutes is allocated for this exam.

When answering a 7 mark question it is important to remember to give three well explained points. So find a point in the source, then develop it making sure you pull information from the source not just from your knowledge of the topic.

A - is the highest grade you can receive on an assignment, and it's between 90% and 100% B - is still a pretty good grade! This is an above-average score, between 80% and 89%

16 marks available. You should spend approximately 15-20 minutes on this question. In this section, there is a mixture of source-based questions, short questions and a structured question.

You should make a point, back it up with evidence, then explain what this evidence shows. For top marks you need to evaluate these points, but show that your argument is stronger. In doing this, you may be asked to provide information about how something looks, how it is carried out in chronological order and/or how it is progressed or interpreted.

These questions involve weighing up different components of an event. You may be considering causes, consequences or the level of, for example, opposition. Considering the question is 'to what extent', it is essential that you weigh up how important/significant that factor actually was.
