🧂What Makes This Recipe So Good
- Ground turkey seasoning is a simple and delicious pantry staple! You have two delicious types of seasonings for you to choose from, a delicious garlic-black pepper style or Mexican-inspired blend. Use the garlic-black pepper seasoning for a delicious stir fry meal that the whole family will love. The Mexican-inspired blend is perfect for tacos, taco bowls, or even burritos.
- It’s so much cheaper and tastier than buying seasonings at the store! Store-bought seasonings are such an expensive item. Making your own reduces trips to the store, and keeps you in control of exactly what is going into your seasoning. No extra unnecessary additives, or hidden spices you don’t like. Make a big batch of both types, and store in airtight containers for up to 6 months. You’ll have delicious seasoning, ready to go whenever you need it!
👩🏼🍳 Chef’s Tips
- Ground turkey seasoning is totally customizable! You can adjust the spices, adding more or less of certain spices depending on your flavor preferences.
- Decrease the amount of dirty dishes in this recipe by mixing your seasoning in the jar you plan to store it in. Just close the lid, give it a couple shakes to combine, and you’re ready to begin cooking! No extra, unnecessary dishes to clean up?! Sign me up!

large wooden spoon (optional, to cook ground turkey)
Ingredients
For the Basic Garlic Turkey Seasoning (Makes 6 ¼ Teaspoons)
- 2 ½ teaspoons kosher salt (more or less to taste)
- 1 ¼ teaspoons freshly cracked black pepper (more or less to taste)
- 1 ¼ teaspoons granulated garlic

- ½ teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper (more or less to taste)
For the Ground Turkey (Optional)
- 1 pound ground turkey
- ⅔ cup water
- 2 tablespoons prepared seasoning of choice (made from either recipe above)
Instructions
For the Basic Garlic Turkey Seasoning
Add 2 ½ teaspoons kosher salt, 1 ¼ teaspoons freshly cracked black pepper, 1 ¼ teaspoons granulated garlic, and 1 ¼ teaspoons onion powder to small mixing bowl. Stir spices together until well blended.
Transfer spice blend to airtight container and store in cool, dry place until ready to use.
For the Taco-Style Turkey Seasoning
Add 4 teaspoons chili powder, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon onion powder, 1 large pinch crushed red pepper flakes, ½ teaspoon ground cumin, 2 teaspoons kosher salt, and ½ teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper to small mixing bowl. Stir spices together until well blended.
Transfer spice blend to airtight container and store in cool, dry place until ready to use.
To Use the Ground Turkey Seasoning
Place large skillet on stovetop over medium heat. Add 1 pound ground turkey to skillet and cook, stirring often to break ground turkey into smaller pieces, 5 minutes or until turkey is crumbled and no longer pink.
Reduce heat under skillet to low. Add ⅔ cup water and 2 tablespoons prepared seasoning of choice and stir to incorporate.
Simmer mixture, stirring occasionally, 10 minutes or until most of liquid has been absorbed.
After liquid has been absorbed, remove skillet from heat and serve seasoned ground turkey as desired.
Notes
- Most dry seasoning packets (like taco seasoning packets) recommend using 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) of seasoning for every 1 pound of ground meat.
- Storage:Store seasoning blends in airtight containers in a cool, dry place, like your spice cabinet or pantry. Spice blends will keep approximately 4 months, depending on the starting age of the spices you used.
