How did Galentine’s Day come about?

The first time Galentine’s Day was mentioned was in episode number 16 of the second season of the sitcom ‘Parks and Recreation’, aptly titled Galentine’s Day.

In this episode, the protagonist Amy Poehler, who plays Leslie Knope, takes her friends to a brunch while she has several gifts prepared for them, because in the words of the itself, it is a day in which “ladies celebrate ladies”, hence its name.
