  1. OMG!!! This stew is so yummy and was perfect for the cold, harsh weather we have been having. Very easy. I just put all the ingredients in the crock. I used a 28 oz. can of tomatoes and that was just right. Cooked all day. The meat was so tender and well seasoned. No other beef stew for us from now on. This is the one. Thanks Nurse Di.

  2. i love your recipes. this is another winner. my family liked it so much that i had to quadruple it today so there would be enough for seconds!! the house smelled wonderful. i used lots and lots of carrots, an onion, 4 or 5 celery, 2 envelopes of onion soup, 4 14oz. cans of stewed or cut up tomatos plus 6# of stew meat and the seasonings in your recipe. i ran out of room for potatos. this will be the only beef stew recipe i use from now on. thank you!!

  3. A truly great stew and will be a regular in our house. I did add an onion and about 2 tbl. of Kitchen Bouquet. Thanks NurseDi for sharing.

  5. Definitely some of the best and easiest beef stew I've ever had. A couple of changes due to necessity: 1) No bouillon granules so I used beef broth 2) Ingredients wouldn't fit in my smallish slow cooker so I used my cast iron dutch oven. In the oven on 300 degrees for about an hour, lowered heat to 200 degrees and cooked for about 4.5 hours. Then I warmed up some crusty french bread...yum! Will definitely be making again and again. And PS: I don't mind using the oven in the cooler months - just helps to heat the house.

  1. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this recipe yet, we have it all the time! We love this stew, and I've tried many different recipes. The only change is that instead of a can of whole tomatoes, I use diced tomatoes. Thank you for many many happy dinners!

  2. This is a great recipe! I've made this stew several times and it's always a hit. I like to brown the stew meat in a pan after coating it with flour, paprika, and cumin before adding it to the crock pot. I also like to add a little cumin, hot chilli pepper, mushrooms, fresh green beans, and beef stock instead of granules. Yum! Happy cooking!

  3. Wonderful recipe! I dont like roast meat, but using it in this dish made it the best I ever had! It is the only way I will use up my roast from now on! I did make some adjustments per what I had on hand. I used a 15oz can of tomato sauce instead and also garlic powder instead of whole cloves. I doubles almost everything depending what fit in the crockpot! But this turned out to be the best I had. Kids loved it and Hubby loved it. This is a keeper!! Thank you!

  4. Excellent and easy recipe. I used diced canned tomatoes instead of whole tomatoes. Thanks for posting.

  5. Super easy, just throw it in the crock pot and off you go. DH doesn't really like stews, so he wasn't impressed. I, however, enjoyed it. Meat was very tender and the flavor was yummy. Missing something, I don't know what, but overall, I'll definitely hold onto it for these chilly winter nights.ETA: Made this again tonight and the flavor was fabulous. Changes: I used the Copycat Lipton Onion Soup mix recipe here on zaar. Instead of 28 oz whole tomatoes, I used what I had in my cabinet (1 can of plain diced and 1 can onion & pepper diced). Absolutely fabulous and I forgot to do the cornstarch slurry. Oh well. Served with cornbread muffins. THANKS! :)
