I’m Bob Evans, owner of 4Cycle.com, The 4Cycle Forum is a place for kart racers to get together to discuss the many and varied aspects of kart racing. On the forum, you’ll find beginners, national racers, motor builders, chassis experts, and folks from all walks of the karting world. Many of us have been around kart racing for many years, so you’re more than welcome to take advantage of the thousands of years of combined experience that’s available. And, if you feel like adding your own experience, it will be appreciated.
Thank you for your time, and I hope you will give the Forum a try to see if it’s of any assistance.
Stay close to the side of the kart you're overtaking as it moves around the apex of the corner – if the gap is too big, you'll risk colliding with them at the next bend. As both karts start to move towards the next corner, dab the throttle and try to out-brake your opponent.
Remember, slow in = fast out. To maintain a competitive pace, you should also stick to using just one pedal at a time. As well as causing spin-outs and slower lap times, pressing down on the brake and accelerator simultaneously can even cause some karts to cut-out altogether.
Go-karting can be tiring because you use more muscles than you think! Your hands, arms, shoulders and upper back may all ache after a race. This is because all these muscles are engaged to keep the car under control, so they stay tensed for a long time.
When choosing between a 20-minute or 30-minute go-karting session, it ultimately comes down to personal preference and experience level. A 20-minute session may be more suitable for beginners or those who are new to go-karting.
Go karting is more physically demanding than you might expect, especially if you've never done it before, so it's wise to do a little warm up beforehand. Try a bit of on-the-spot jogging, making sure your hands and wrists are flexed and ready to go.
How fast do racing go karts go? The average go kart top speed is around 50-80 kph, but many drivers have reached speeds up to 100 kph. Hyper Karting's race tracks reach a top speed of 60km/h as we aim to avoid dangerous driving of all means to keep you and others safe.
Once you enter the approach, take your foot off the throttle and apply the brakes. Slowing down for corners will give you more control and help you avoid sliding out. Now that your speed has been reduced you can turn into the corner, how much you need to turn will be determined by the sharpness of the corner.
In this week's blog, I want to talk about go-kart speed. Something of which is always an ongoing battle with racers, track owners, and insurance companies. Most karts max out around 40-50mph, while this is a maintained speed that is safe and as controlled as you can be.
