Formative Certified Educator course is a self-paced training program that will teach you best practices for leveraging formative as a daily instruction and assessment tool. You will walk away with a completion badge, a certificate for 5 hours of professional development, and a multi-modal, standards-aligned task for immediate use in your classroom! The course is consistently updated to incorporate training on our newest product features. Educators who do not currently have access to a paid Formative subscription and who complete the FCE online course will be recognized with a complimentary access to Formative Silver for 90 days.

How do I log into the course?
When logging in, you’ll be prompted to sign in with Newsela. You’ll get to a screen that looks like this:
From there, when you click Begin or Sign In, you’ll be prompted to sign in using the credentials you use to sign into Newsela.
Where can I find the course on the Formative site?
Teachers can find the course in the Training Center here: https://training.formative.com/course
How long will the course take to complete? Do I have to complete the program in one sitting?
The FCE course is self-paced. You can start and stop and the Skilljar platform will save your place. We anticipate the course lessons and performance task will take 3-5 hours to complete.
How long will my certification last for?
Your FCE status is valid for 2 years. After 2 years, you will be invited to recertify to extend your credentials with an abbreviated course to bring you up to speed on what’s changed since your last completion.
What is the free trial length upon completing my certification?
Educators who do not already have a Formative Silver subscription or Gold access as part of a school or district subscription will receive 90 days of free Formative Silver upon completion of the course.
Can anyone complete the FCE course? Do I need to be a paid Newsela or Formative customer to complete the course?
Participants do not need to be Newsela or Formative paying customers to take advantage of the content in the FCE course. Simply sign up for free Formative access to get started!
How soon after completing the program will I hear back about my FCE status?
After submitting your final performance task, you will immediately receive a notification about your status. Pending successful completion, you will receive an email with an official certificate, FCE badge, and link to claim your free trial.
How can I check my course progress?
You can check your course progress by viewing your courses in training.newsela.com. That will allow you to see your course history and jump back into where you left off.

I’m switching schools/ districts, can you transfer my NCE status?
Yes, if you completed NCE within the last 2 years we can transfer your NCE status to your new school email domain. Please provide your old email address and your current email address.
