AEW Dynamite results, live blog (April 24, 2024): IWGP World title match (2024)

Here’s a place to check results and comment along with a new episode of AEW Dynamite, airing tonight (April 10) at 8 pm ET on TBS.

This week’s episode comes our way from the company’s “home field” — Jacksonville, Florida’s Daily’s Place.

New IWGP World Heavyweight champion Jon Moxley will put his belt on the line for the first time against Powerhouse Hobbs as the Blackpool Combat Club’s issues with The Don Callis Family continue coming out of Will Ospreay’s victory over Bryan Danielson at Dynasty on Sunday.

Speaking of that April 20 PPV, we’ll should get plenty of follow-up from Dynasty tonight. New AEW World champ Swerve Strickland will face Kyle Fletcher in a Title Eliminator. New TBS titleholder Willow Nightingale already has a Double or Nothing defense set against Mercedes Moné, but tonight she’ll have a celebration. New FTW champion Chris Jericho has something to say, and Chuck Taylor will pick a side in the Best Friends-splitting feud between Orange Cassidy & Trent Beretta. Nothing announced yet for new Tag champs The Young Bucks, and the old ally who returned to help them win the belts (Scapegoat Jack Perry), but we expect to see them tonight.

Plus, Anna Jay vs. Stardom’s Mina Shirakawa... and a whole lot more.

Come right back here at 8pm ET when the Dynamite live blog kicks off once the show starts on TBS. It will be below this line here.

Enjoy the show!

AEW DYNAMITE RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR APRIL 24

It doesn’t matter how we failed each other, they temple us from satellites with estrogen rain until our collective libidos, pierced and leaking mongrel enzymes on the streets, but me? I’m just here to liveblog this pro wrestling show for you, folks.

The show opens with footage of the Young Bucks and Kazuchika Okada arriving at the arena earlier today.

Another car arrives and “Scapegoat” Jack Perry gets out. Security tries to bar him from the arena but the Bucks throw their weight around and he’s let in.

In the arena, Orange Cassidy’s entrance plays and Trent Beretta throws him through the entrance and kicks him down the stairs!

Trent gets in the ring and calls Chuck Taylor out and starts by apologizing for not doing this a long time ago. He’s sorry they spent five years hugging this narcissistic prick. He was supposed to be their mascot but he took over and he doesn’t care and he isn’t a friend.

He asks Taylor to give the people what they really want, but Chuck attacks him and says he always knew Trent was a piece of sh*t! He says they won’t clear him for a match in the ring, but he doesn’t want to fight Beretta in the ring, he wants to fight him in the damn parking lot!

Jon Moxley cuts a promo and he calls Powerhouse Hobbs a truck of a man who hits like one too and he’s acutely aware of what’s at stake tonight. Tonight’s going to suck, it’s going to be a walk through hell, a march through mud and fire, and there’s nowhere he’d rather be.

He doesn’t play golf, man, this is pro wrestling, the king of sports, and tonight he reminds the world just who he is, in case they forgot. When all the oxygen is pulled out of Powerhouse’s lungs, they’re gonna feel it, from Jacksonville to Tokyo.

Kyle Fletcher vs. Shane “Swerve” Strickland

Squaring up, Strickland with a hammerlock, Fletcher reverses to a crucifix pin but Swerve goes right back to the hold trying to grind him down. Kyle with a foot on the ropes, Shane presses the attack, short armscissor, sidestep, stereo boots to a stalemate! Front kick, whip to the corner, heel kick from the champion!

Diving uppercut, a kick sends Strickland to the floor, Shane back up on the apron, cutting him off, boot knocks Fletcher down and we go to break!

Back from commercial, back and forth, off the ropes and both men end up down and out! We see the Elite making their way to Tony Khan’s office and Jack Perry gives a meaningful look to the camera on his way in. Neckbreaker from Swerve on the apron, back inside, Fletcher counters a kick into an ankle lock in the middle of the ring!

Chest kicks from Kyle, Strickland fighting back into it, kicks of his own, dragon screw roll through, fighting over a suplex, Shane gets an upkick to stagger him, rolling thunder reverse STO connects! Vertical suplex, lateral press... NOPE! Hoisting Fletcher up for a Tombstone, reversed, reversed again, Kyle reverses once more, running falling Tombstone piledriver... SO CLOSE!

Charging kick, Fletcher puts him up top, jockeying for position... TREE OF WOE SWERVE STOMP CAN’T PUT KYLE DOWN! Swerve lines him up...

Shane Strickland wins by pinfall with House Call.

Backstage, Renee Paquette interviews Thunder Rosa.

She says she can’t complain, she was really proud of what she accomplished, and—

Deonna Purrazzo rolls up to bicker with her, a shoving match breaks out, and security breaks them up as we go to break.

Back from commercial, we get a video package recapping Bryan Danielson vs. Will Ospreay at Dynasty.

Anna Jay vs. Mina Shirakawa

Feeling out, Shirakawa going after the leg, crossleg shinbreaker, springboard roundhouse kick, cover for two, repeated elbow drops to the knee! Jay cuts her off, cover for two, and we go to break!

Back from commercial, Mina with a wicked rolling elbow into a vicious uraken, up top, wrist-clutch Meteora... NOPE! Anna with a Gory Facebuster, only a nearfall! Hooking her, back elbows free Shirakawa, dragon screw connects and she follows it with a figure four leglock but Jay quickly gets the ropes!

Missile dropkick connects, running enzuigiri, still only two! A little back and forth, Mina takes advantage...

Mina Shirakawa wins by pinfall with Glamorous Collection.

Post-match, Mariah May comes to the ring with champagne but Anna Jay poops the party and chokes May out with the Queenslayer until Toni Storm makes the save!

Serena Deeb is here! She picks up Toni’s discarded shoes and throws them aside before sitting down on the stage next to the title belt and promises that the next time she touches the belt, it’ll belong to her.

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial, Stokely Hathaway and Kris Statlander are in the ring for Willow Nightingale’s championship celebration.

Stoke asks Jacksonville if they’re ready to party and says they got Caprice Coleman on commentary and he tosses to Kris, who says they’re here to give Nightingale her flowers in the form of a poem that Hathaway correctly describes as “two pounds of ass” before introducting Willow!

Caprice Coleman treats us to the vocal component of Willow’s music live on headset.

Stoke admits he didn’t like Willow initially, she returns the feeling, and he says she earned the title and they’re proud of her. She’s proud too, because tonight in Jacksonville is the very place, when in spring of 2020 she was in the front row trying to catch her break.

Then in 2022 she was in this ring when she got signed, and now she stands here not as a rookie, but as the face of TBS!

Enter Mercedes Mone, today dressed like some kind of evil owl, perhaps.

Willow tells her to get it over with but Mercedes says she’s just here to congratulate her and to remind her to enjoy it while it lasts because she’s winning the title at Double or Nothing. Also she wants to know if Nightingale attacked her, they all bicker about it, Stoke cuts the knot and suggests that it was probably Julia Hart.

Nightingale has to ask Mone if she thinks she intentionally injured her in New Japan, and Mercedes says she doesn’t want the truth, she just wants to feel better about what she did. Willow says she feels genuinely awful for her but she had a lot of questions and doubts after that night, and she admits that title reign had an asterisk but there’s no asterisk next to her TBS Championship and she wants Mercedes at 100 percent.

Mone says in her heart, Willow knows she can’t beat her. She goes to leave, Stat grabs her hand, Mercedes hauls off and slaps Nightingale about it and Stokely and Bryce Remsburg pull them apart and keep them separated.

Alex Marvez desperately asks each of the Elite in turn if Jack Perry is reinstated, and Matthew Jackson finally tells him that Tony Khan has agreed to meet with Perry in the ring, tonight.

We get a recap of Jack’s Scapegoat run in New Japan these last couple months.

Dante Martin vs. Jay Lethal vs. “Switchblade” Jay White vs. Komander vs. Kyle O’Reilly vs. Lance Archer vs. Penta el Zero M vs. Will Ospreay (AEW International Championship #1 Contender’s Casino Gauntlet Match)

Circling, collar and elbow, White backs him into the corner, Martin ducks, wristlocks, Jay hammering chops. Dante up and over, tijeras, big dropkick, cover for two. Switchblade back body drops Martin over the ropes and here comes Penta el Zero M as our next entrant!

Penta with a fireman’s carry, in control, and we go to break!

Back from commercial, Martin and Penta brawling and here comes Kyle O’Reilly! Kyle’s gotten a haircut and is throwing elbows, shoulder armbreakers, snapmare and a kick to Jay, strike rush takes him off his feet! Cross armbar attempt, shift to a heel hook, White grabs the ropes and here comes Will Ospreay!

Springboard elbow from Ospreay, springboard Pele kicks take Martin and Zero out, arm drag for Switchblade! Will with chops, and here comes Lance Archer! He clears a path of destruction and we go to break!

In comes Komander, he takes Archer out and gets into it with Will and hits a wild satellite DDT only for Switchblade to break it up! Big Uranage on Komander... SO CLOSE! Ospreay reverses a Blade Runner into a Liger Bomb and nearly does it! Calling for it...

Jay Lethal comes down next and gets right into it with Ospreay! Lethal Combination on Martin, Penta cuts him off, whip across, sunset flip, handspring, Lethal Injection connects but White cuts him off! Blade Runner blocked, dragon suplex connects, Dante with a dropkick!

Ax and Smash from KOR, getting into it with Kyle, kick combo from Will, roll over, reversed, rolling elbow, pendulum lariat countered with a flying elbow... STILL NO! Underhooks, Ospreay changes his mind and O’Reilly puts him in a cross armbar in the middle of the ring... KOMANDER WITH A ROPEWALK SHOOTING STAR PRESS BUT OSPREAY BREAKS THE PIN UP WITH HIDDEN BLADE! IT’S OVER!

Will Ospreay becomes #1 contender to the AEW International Championship.

Post-match the Undisputed Kingdom come to the ring to square up with Ospreay, and we go to break.

Back from commercial, Chris Jericho makes his entrance.

He gets on the mic and crows about being FTW Champion and says from now on “FTW” stands for “For the World” because it’s for all of us. He claims Terry Funk passed the torch to him and puts HOOK over and says his only flaw is that he needs to take lessons from him and get rid of the dead weight around him like Taz and Shibata and the clowns around him.

And more importantly, listen when he tells you to stay down. He claims HOOK forced him to hit him in the head with a baseball bat. He keeps talking about how he’s excited for all of us—

Enter “Big” Bill Morrissey.

He says he’s been in the back listening and he only has one thing to say... he needs the guidance of the Learning Tree. Everybody knows Jericho is the Socrates of professional wrestling, and he knows everyone is lining up to sit under the Learning Tree, but he knows in his heart that he is the very best fit for it.

Chris says he’s been watching him for a long time and he’s one of the reasons he’s in AEW, and he’s gonna keep an eye on him to see if what he says is true, and Big Bill tells him to watch him.

Renee Paquette interviews Will Ospreay, Don Callis, and Kyle Fletcher backstage.

Callis puts Will over but says he wished he would have hit the Tiger Driver. Ospreay says he doesn’t want to do it after it hit Bryan Danielson like that, Don says he shouldn’t care about how many broken necks Danielson has had, Kyle Fletcher tries to speak up in Will’s defense that he won the match but Callis tells him he shouldn’t talk about winning matches given his loss tonight.

Don reiterates and says Roderick Strong’s had a broken neck and if he needs to break it again to win the title he should do that, and we go to break.

Jon Moxley (c) vs. “Powerhouse” Will Hobbs (IWGP World Heavyweight Championship)

Circling, Moxley probing kicks, Hobbs backs him into the corner, whip across, right hands, float over a slam, German suplex from the champion but Will pops right back up! A back body drop, Jon bails to the floor clutching his back! Powerhouse out after him, Moxley drops him with a boot over the barricade and follows after to brawl!

Back inside, Will in control, and we go to break!

Back from commercial, Moxley cuts Powerhouse out at the knees and sends him crashing to the floor! Will clutching his knee, referee Paul Turner checking on him, but he’s good to go! Back inside, Paradigm Shift sets up a sleeper hold and Will starts to fade...

Jon Moxley wins by referee stoppage with a sleeper hold, retaining the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

Post-match, Konosuke Takesh*ta comes to the stage wearing huge harem pants to make a challenge for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

Commentary hypes up our next week of shows for us.

Renee Paquette interviews Katsuyori Shibata.

He uses his adorable robot voice to say he’s going to challenge Chris Jericho to an FTW Championship match in Manitoba next week and he’s going to tear the learning tree down, and he finishes by complimenting her top.

Tony Schiavone is in the ring to introduce “Scapegoat” Jack Perry, who comes down with no entrance music.

Jack says today has been one of the best days of his life but now he has business to handle, right here, face to face with Tony Khan.

TK comes down with no fanfare or entrance music, smiling and nodding awkwardly across from Perry. Jack says it’s been a long road and in five years since the first Double or Nothing, AEW has changed the world. It’s no secret they’ve had ups and downs and haven’t always seen eye to eye, but he wants to say now from the bottom of his heart, the only thing he’s ever wanted is what’s best for AEW.

Tony claps and puts his hand to his heart at this, and Jack asks him to please shake his hand, reinstate him, and go on to change the world together. Khan gives a thumbs up and shakes his hand and embraces him, easy peasy. Perry leans into the embrace and looks into the camera with a smile on his face.

He raises TK’s hand, Tony smiles and points... AND JACK PUNCHES TONY KHAN HARD IN THE GUT WITH THE MIC!

The Bucks and Okada rush down to check on the boss, the Bucks grab his hands like they’re going to EVP Trigger him before letting go. Okada gives a double thumbs up and points... MELTZER DRIVER ON THE BOSS!

It takes a long beat before referee Bryce Remsburg and a ringside medic hit the ring to check on Tony.

The Elite all pose on the stage and one of the Bucks says it’s time to change the world.

They thank everyone for coming as referee Aubrey Edwards tells them off.

A bunch of the babyface roster comes down rather belatedly to check on the boss, along with TK’s dad Shahid Khan.

That’s the show, folks.
